Diners Club was the first international multi-use charge card
to achieve worldwide acceptance and the first to issue corporate
accounts.
The launching of Diners Club marked the beginning of the 'cashless culture'.
Initially accepted in only 27 dining establishments in New York,
by 1952 the card was accepted across the US with the acquisition of Dine N
sign in California and plastic credit became a status symbol.
Within the first decade the card was accepted in more than 50 countries.
1960 saw the extension of the credit concept to airline tickets,
petrol purchase as well as consumer articles.
Diners Club initiated insurance plans to cover the card member from
liabilities resulting from lost or stolen cards and travel insurance.
In 1975 Diners Club launched the first corporate card. Enabling
large corporations to manage their business travel and administrative expenses.
In 1978. Diners Club was introduced in Oman and in 1994 Global Services was formed.
In addition to personal cards Diners Club Oman also offer corporate services like the
Diners Club Travel Account and Diners Club Business Purchasing Solutions which
facilitates comprehensive centralised payments and provides management information
relating to travel and business expenses
Today Diners Club with a global strength of 6.8 million card holders is accepted by
more than 8.5 million Services Establishments and nine hundred thousand Cirrus ATMs worldwide.
